PCC STUEY DIVER

Early in 2010 my design brain/journey was at a crossroad. My burning romance with the Mini Simmons was dimming to a flicker. It seemed people were open to more to some fresh ideas in surf riding thanks largely to Mr Slater and his title quest on very short boards, there were ideas in a new design that I wanted to explore. I did not want to forget all I had learned from the Simmons experiment in fact the new design I was thinking of was a paintbox of the short board we know and the glide of the Simmons planing hull.

At this point in good friend Grant was struggling with his hip recovery, I thought that my latest thoughts on design could work for the both of us. I said to Grant that I would do what it take for him to be able to get through this tough patch, actually that was a promise. Later this model was affectionately named the Stuey diver, the good news is it worked unreal.

The first Stuey divers were between 5 foot 7 and 5 foot 9, 21 inches wide and very flat through the tail. The fins were further back, set in deep concave’s that carried to the rail. The idea was these boards would plane like the Simmons and drive like a short board off the rail, because there was not a lot of board in front of the riders front foot or lever point, the feel is very responsive in regards to how wide the centre is. I quickly shared the feeling by turning out a number of Stuey divers for a variance of riders who were willing to give it a crack, the response was not short of amazing. In the first 6 to 8 months of producing this model I had never had so many people of all abilities get back to me saying this is the BEST board I have ever owned.

There have been some refining over the past couple of years from the first Stuey Divers. Over all it is the same tried and tested model we began with that works great in zero to head high surf. The Stuey Diver is the story of the first few boards that have evolved into the operating system for the majority of my work right now and into the future.
